Samurai Deeper Kyo is a manga written and illustrated by Akimine Kamijyo, first serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine in October 1999 and ended in May 2006 with the length of 38 volumes. It was also adaptated into an anime series by Studio DEEN, airing in TV Tokyo with a total of 26 episodes.

How the story goes

Mibu Kyoushirou, a wandering druggist, runs into a female bounty hounter called Shiina Yuya who tries to capture him and claims himself as the most-wanted slayer Onime no Kyo (literally means Demon Eyes Kyo), who is rumoured to have killed 1,000 men. Kyoushirou denies, but Yuya drags him although she herself thinks that his actions make him doesn't seem to be Kyo; but she still believes because Kyoushirou has the sword that Kyo carries around as described in the posters.

However, as soon as they gets in danger, Kyoushirou's foolish and peaceful character drastically changes. His eyes turn red and he suddenly becomes a great slayer--that's when Yuya realizes that Kyo's soul dwells within Kyoushirou's body. She learns that Kyoushirou has sealed Kyo's body and hid it somewhere, therefore Kyo wants to regain his body. Despite Kyo's rude actions and the potentially dangerous journey, Yuya decides to follow him around--along with some other people who joins later on, because of her curiosity and that Kyo knows something about the person who killed her only brother, Nozomu.
